Raising Awareness (and a giveaway!)

When I was a young mama of three boys, I belonged to a supportive group of gals. A MOMS club (Moms offering Moms Support). While I was a member of the group, I had my own little run in with the “C” word- cancer. Thankfully in my case, it was cervical cancer, caught early and completely treatable with surgery.
My friend, Helen, wasn’t nearly as fortunate. Helen had waited a long time to have her son, John. Helen and her hubby had been married for years. She was a genuine, fun loving, credible, authentic woman. I attended my first lingerie party at Helen’s house (one of my favorite MOMS group memories).
Helen fought a valiant battle against breast cancer. She wore beautiful silk scarves on her head when she lost her hair. She continued to bring John to as many activities as she could. She gave back to the community as she always had done before cancer invaded her body, the very part of her that had nursed her child as an infant.
Helen went to be with the Lord after giving all she had to the breast cancer battle. Her death rattled our community. It also made us all much more aware and respectful of our bodies and overall health.
I was pleased to find a company that shares a passion for this important cause. Energizer, the company known for it’s Keep Going Spirit, has partnered with the Susan G. Komen foundation to sponsor the Breast Cancer 3-day walk.
“We are proud to sponsor such an amazing event that truly highlights the perseverance and never-quit spirit of thousands joining together in the fight to end breast cancer,” said Betsy Laakko, Director of Marketing for Energizer. “We hope the walkers and supporters are inspired by the unstoppable energy of the Energizer Bunny® as they travel on this 60-mile journey to help find the cures.”
n honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Energizer is offering a free, special edition Keep Going® Journal to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The 80-page journal features inspirational quotes, a pink ribbon bookmark, convenient calendar and magnetic closure. For every journal redeemed, Energizer will donate $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. You can get your journals by mailing in three proofs of purchase from select Energizer batteries.
