New Season of Great Television!

I have not been so excited for a new season of television shows to start since 90210 and Melrose Place (the originals) were on when I was in high school!  In addition to my regular programming (Grey’s, etc. on Thurs. and Extreme Makeover, etc. on Sundays) I have found some new shows that are guaranteed to become favorites in the Smallwood home.

I had the privilege of watching a few of the preview’s and debut episodes of CBS’ fall line-up.  Let me just say, I have my DVR ready to go!  Here’s what I am looking forward to:

  • Back in the days when George Clooney was on ER, so was one of my favorite actresses, Julianna Marguiles.  She returns to a dramatic series Tuesday, September 22 in CBS’  “The Good Wife”.  Marguiles is cast as Alicia Florrick, the wife of a politician who is sent to prison in a prostitution and corruption scandal.  Alicia is forced to resurrect the career she put on hold for her husband as she deals with the fall-out of having been betrayed in such a public manner. 4 The show also stars Mr. Big Chris Noth (as the husband) and Christine Baranski (looooved her on Cybill) as a colleague.  As usual, Julianna Marguiles nails the character of Alicia and the show is definitely worth watching.
  • Then there is the absolutely endearing comedy “Accidentally on Purpose”.  I had the distinct pleasure of participating in a conference call with Jenna Elfman (yes, Dharma and she sounds exactly like that on the phone *squee*).  On the call was also Mary Pols, the author of the book by the same name that inspired the series.  Combined with the writer/executive producer of the show, Claudia, the three of them were a hoot to interview and listen to!  And the show is even better.  ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE is a comedy starring Golden Globe Award winner Jenna Elfman as Billie, a single woman who finds herself “accidentally” pregnant after a one-night stand with a much younger guy, and decides to keep the baby and the guy.  A newspaper film critic, Billie is barely surviving a humiliating breakup with her charming boss, James (Grant Show the hunk from aformentioned Melrose Place, people!), who’s still trying to resume their relationship.  Suddenly expecting a child with her “boy toy,” Zack (played by Jon Foster), Billie and Zack make an arrangement: to live together platonically. Billie’s party girl best friend Olivia (Ashley Jensen), and Abby (Lennon Parham), her conventional, younger married sister, eagerly look forward to the new addition and offer their own brands of advice and encouragement.  But when Zack and his freeloading friends, including Davis (Nicolas Wright), start to turn her place into a frat house , Billie isn’t sure if she’s living with a boyfriend, a roommaop_jenna_yattate, or if she just has another child to raise.  The show will be following the pregnancy in “real time” and will delve into many issues surrounding single parenthood, relationships and most of all, humor!  I would not recommend this show for kids as it does contain sexual humor and does not promote the type of lifestyle I encourage my kids to pursue. But the hubby and I will be laughing and watching (and it comes on right before Two and a Half Men, another laugh out loud comedy!)
  • Last but not least is Medium. You can visit this link for details about this show (my hubby is a Patricia Arquette fan).  I am not into shows like this but he loves Ghost Whisperer as well so Friday nights will be all about CBS as I loooove Numb3rs!

There is plenty to watch this season on CBS.  So grab some popcorn, get control of that remote and prepare to be entertained!

Oooh, that first one sounds good – mostly because I love those actors. Christine Baranski is great! Hmmm, CBS and no Survivor plug? … :-)
