Thankful Thursday- Courage

Today’s Thankful Thursday post is focused on courage. Visit our host Laurie to find other Thankful Thursday posts.

Any situation that arises that requires courage is so much easier to me since I had my near death experience in September. I just went to my six month follow up with the hematologist and they still don’t know how, what, where, etc. I got a pulmonary embolism from. They are going to do one more DNA test to see if I have some type of genetic mutation (sounds scarier than it is) and barring that being the case, we will probably never know what caused the blood clot that traveled to my right lung and lodged there in September 2008.

The thing I have tried to explain to people (including my poor traumatized hubby) is that I don’t need to know. Granted, every once in a while I get a little freaked out if I have pain in my leg and I understand that thirty year old women with no risk factors shouldn’t almost die but I choose to focus on that latter part- ALMOST. I didn’t die. Which means to me that God isn’t finished with me yet. So, rather than focusing on what led me to that hospital bed I would rather focus on what I learned there.

And, yes, that does require a certain amount of courage but at the same time, it doesn’t require as much as you might think. I am perfectly content to let God handle the big stuff. I understand 2 Corinthians 1:9 which says:

“In our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God.”

Whatever happens, if it brings me closer to God- bring it on!
And, I thank God for the experiences that have brought me to that place- all glory to Him!!

You rock, Melissa. Exactly the opposite of me. fear is my big bugaboo and I have to repeatedly — I mean REPEATEDLY — give stuff over to God. the same stuff. I’m a slow learner!busy
